The mayor of Test Valley councillor Iris Andersen was joined by principal Tim Jackson and Amiri Construction director Kevin Lendon to commemorate the building of a new £2.7 million technology and future skills centre for Andover College.
The modern two-storey building will provide a much-needed teaching facility covering the building trades. Amiri Construction, working to plans by London-based architects Archial Norr, will complete the structure by May.
Lendon said that the new building will help to entice students to consider training for the construction industry: “It will be a great space to build a skills base for electrics, wood and brick trades, areas in which our industry faces a skills shortage.”
Amiri Construction said that it plans to work with the College to expand its apprenticeship programme as the company expands. The workshop is the third project undertaken for Andover College by the Fareham-based team.
