The Hampshire Enterprise Circle has teamed up with Basepoint Business Centre, Winchester, to host "Celebrating Start Up Success" which will mark Global Entrepreneurship Week, the world’s largest campaign to promote entrepreneurship. The free business-networking event will take place at the centre on November 16  from 10am until 2pm.

Councillor Mel Kendal, executive member for economic development at Hampshire County Council, said: “While today’s start-up scene is hugely vibrant and exciting, it is also very competitive. This event provides a wonderful showcase for the endless possibilities open to budding entrepreneurs who should take advantage of the many excellent opportunities to network, build new connections and access the practical support which will help them on their journey.”

608,110 businesses were started in the UK in 2015, a new record compared to 2014’s 581,173 start-ups and 526,447 in 2013. The UK needs these growing start-ups. According to the Federation of Small Businesses, there are an estimated 5.4 million businesses in the UK. SMEs make up more than 99% of those, and employ 15.6 million people producing a combined turnover of £1.75 trillion.

Among the presenting companies at the GEW event will be Startup Britain, KMS Marketing, Action Coach, Amicus ITS, Custom Studio, Paris Smith, The LinkedIn Man, and Get Set for Growth, and each will be passing on tips on generating new business ideas, advice on small-business finance and marketing, innovation, mentoring and resilience. Attendees will hear from local business owners who will share their stories on how they “made it happen”, charting their journey to success.
