Beginning January 2020, WCG will be hosting their first round of Business Breakfast Briefings, starting with ‘Apprenticeships Mythbusting’

With all the changes to apprenticeships in recent years, there are a lot of myths being circulated which don’t tell the true story of what apprenticeships are, how they work and whether they could benefit businesses.

The ‘Apprenticeships Mythbusting’ briefings are a chance for you to understand more about the mechanics of apprenticeships and debunk the myths that surround them, in order to support the government’s apprenticeship drive.

Apprenticeships are at the heart of WCG, fast-becoming the largest college training provider for apprenticeships in the Midlands. WCG train in the region of 2500 apprentices each year and work with more than 1100 employers from large global organisations to small local businesses.

Angela Joyce, CEO of WCG, said: “We are doing everything we can as an organisation to support the government’s apprenticeship drive, by recruiting new employers and offering better opportunities for students.”

WCG believe that by developing skills from within, organisations have the chance to grow organically and develop the tools to meet the challenges of the current marketplace. The extensive range of apprenticeships on offer at WCG are all designed by industry, for industry, so businesses know that apprentices will be acquiring relevant knowledge and skills that they can apply immediately in the workplace.

Come along to the ‘Apprenticeships Mythbusting’ briefing at the college nearest to you, and WCG will help debunk the following myths:

  • Aren’t apprenticeships just for young people?
  • Apprentices have to be new employees, don’t they?
  • Only employers that pay into the levy can afford an apprentice?
  • They’re just a way of getting cheap labour!
  • I have to pay a lot towards the training of an apprentice
  • It’s a massive commitment for a small business
  • Young people aren’t good workers
  • If an apprentice leaves, I have to keep paying their training!
  • Apprenticeships only cover jobs with basic skills
  • Plus many more!

The ‘Apprenticeship Mythbusting’ Briefings will take place at the following WCG locations:
