The McMurtry Automotive Spéirling PURE fan car, running at 75 per cent power and 75 per cent downforce, achieved a lap time of 1.24.43 on the 2.842-mile F1 circuit at Hockenheim in Germany earlier this month.

The car, built in Gloucestershire, was being showcased in both shared and exclusive sessions during a Dorr Group Track Day.

The time was verified by independent timekeepers and driven by former-F1 driver Max Chilton, who is also the record holder at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

This lap time was 14.1 seconds faster than the exclusive track-focused hypercar, the Mercedes-AMG One, achieved in 2022. Additionally, it was 3.907 seconds faster than the DTM qualifying time in 2020, making it the fastest closed wheel car ever around Hockenheimring.

The McMurtry Spéirling PURE is a hyper-track car available for order worldwide. It uses a unique downforce-on-demand system to provide exceptional downforce and grip right. The system works alongside the 1000bhp electric powertrain, offering selectable performance drive modes from GT3 to F1-level pace.

South Gloucestershire-based McMurtry Automotive invents, engineers and develops electric vehicles to challenge conventions surrounding the automotive industry.

The pure electric single-seater hypercar was envisioned by one of Britain’s most successful businessmen, Sir David McMurtry who set up Renishaw, one the UK's biggest manufacturing success stories, and delivered by a high-performance team using expertise from F1 and aerospace. The cars are engineered and built in Britain.

Last month McMurtry Automotive, confirmed nearby Castle Combe Circuit as its ‘go-to’ test facility for 2024 in a significant new partnership between the two local companies.

McMurtry Automotive will host multiple private test days at the high-speed 1.85-mile race track, as well as benefitting from bespoke branding around the venue throughout the year.

McMurtry Automotive has also recently recruited two technicians from the Wiltshire College Motorsport Campus located on site at Castle Combe Circuit.

Founded in 2016, McMurtry Automotive, the firm made waves in 2022 by smashing the Goodwood Festival of Speed hill climb record in its Spéirling fan car, piloted by Max Chilton – an unforgettable moment in motorsport history that placed McMurtry Automotive firmly on the global automotive stage.
