The home of heritage motoring, Bicester Heritage has welcomed Electrogenic, to its unique ‘motoring-marina’.

Dreamt up during the construction of a 60MW biomass power plant in a Cuban hurricane, Electrogenic specialises in converting classic cars into 100 per cent electric models. Based out of the recently reactivated Building 118 at the centre of the vibrant site, Electrogenic will provide a new skill base to the Heritage campus, in addition to using the onsite track for testing and development opportunities.

Electrogenic will be a welcome events presence to the Bicester Heritage events calendar, showcasing its range of current conversion projects including a beautiful Citroën DS, a Porsche 356 and an E-Type Jaguar. The company is an excellent addition to the broader Bicester Motion site, on which Bicester Heritage sits, which is planned to become a leading destination for mobility technology and experience, past, present and future.

Steve Drummond, Founder and Director of Electrogenic, said: “We are delighted to bring our electric conversion technology to be part of the Bicester Heritage specialist hub. Electrogenic’s aim is always to preserve the spirit of the original vehicle, retaining gear-changes and the original instrument clusters, while adapting the drive train to the modern environment. Our classic vehicle-centred technology continuously evolves, which is why Bicester provides the perfect setting for our business to grow in.”

Dan Geoghegan, CEO, Bicester Heritage added: “The motoring industry is changing at a rapid rate, and Electrogenic are a firm that very much have their finger on the pulse when it comes to super-charging the future of our much-loved classic car industry. We are looking forward to welcoming them on site and witnessing the magic of their conversion projects.”

Founded in 2013 Bicester Heritage has gone from a standing start to a home for 45 specialist businesses, and growing, with a collective turnover of over £50m, making it the largest player in the industry and set to grow exponentially with a global reach.

The unique ecosystem of businesses based at the beautiful 444-acre former WW2 RAF Bomber Training Station acts as ‘marina-like’ cluster, promoting skills and expertise, employment, qualified customer footfall, shared business incubation and aggregate growth. The site is all about driving the future of the past.

The former RAF Bicester site on which Bicester Heritage is now based, is of national historic importance. Neglected for the best part of 40 years, it was added to Historic England’s ‘At Risk Register’ in 2008 and designated the most 'at risk' of all Defence Estates in the UK.

Since Bicester Heritage’s tenure, more than 95 per cent of the buildings have been delicately restored or re-activated for modern business use, with the site now held as a national exemplar of constructive conservation by Historic England. The time-warp base is truly unmatched in evocative character and an active airfield and test track complete its dynamic operation.
