Sustainable Skies World Summit brings leading aviators to Farnborough
The Sustainable Skies World Summit convened earlier this week with a key takeaway โ Net Zero is within grasp for the aviation industry, but it will require scale, collaboration and innovation.
Global industry leaders gathered with government representatives, technology innovators, academics, investors and regulators at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre to collaborate and share new aviation technologies.
Secretary of State for Transport, Mark Harper MP, and Minister of State at the Department for Business and Trade, Nusrat Ghani MP, were both in attendance to discuss the legislation required to keep the UK at the forefront of the aerospace industry.
They represented the government-led Jet Zero Council, launched at the Farnborough International Airshow last year, which convened at the summit for its eighth meeting.

The Sustainable Aviation Coalition also took the opportunity to publish its updated Net Zero Carbon roadmap, outlining a vision for sustainable and economically viable commercial aviation.
Gareth Rogers, CEO of Farnborough International, said: โThe level of collaboration, insight sharing, and attendance at the event has demonstrated the demand from the global aerospace ecosystem for the concerted progression towards Net Zero and the need for Sustainable Skies World Summit to be the catalyst for these conversations.
โFarnborough International is at the heart of the aerospace sector, leading the way in providing vital platforms for the industry to convene.โ
Nor was the summit short of spectacle, as RAF Voyager โVespinaโ arrived to conduct an air-to-air refuelling sortie for other RAF aircraft on site.
Organised by International Airlines Group and BP, the Airbus A330-derived Military Passenger plane collected a 43 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blend earlier in the day at a site over the North Sea, prior to flying over the conference centre.
Among the other companies showcasing in Farnborough were WheelTug, ACOG, Alfanar, Rise Coalition, Reaction Engines, Rolls-Royce, ZeroAvia, GKN Aerospace, NEBOAir, Zuri, Aerovolt, Carbon Engineering, Skyfly and Cranfield Aerospace Solutions.
Industry supporters and sponsors for the summit included Airbus, Alfanar, ATI, Embraer, CFM, Catapault, ADS Group, Sustainable Aviation Coalition and Saudia.
The dialogue is set to continue at the Global Urban & Advance Air Summit in Singapore, hosted by Farnborough International this September.
