Oxford-operating printers ARC-UK Technologies have put £1m towards more eco-friendly and time efficient equipment in a move to ramp up sustainability efforts.

The investment will help the firm support companies and their net zero ambitions as they can now offer carbon neutral print production at speed and scale.

It becomes the second UK business to install the Acuity Ultra Hybrid LED – a wide format Fujifilm printing press which uses recyclable inks, free from environmentally damaging solvents.

The press uses around half the energy of a traditional machine, with the capability to print all the signage for a 1.6 million sq ft shopping mall, such as Bluewater in Kent, in just 48 hours.

Darren Moorhouse, Head of Sales UK & Europe, said: “The investment highlights our continued journey towards achieving our carbon net zero targets within the UK government’s stipulated timelines.

“It also allows us to further align with industry-leading sustainability strategies from some of the UK’s leading companies to provide carbon neutral print and document solutions.

“We can now drive greater levels of productivity without compromising on neutral status or cost efficiencies.”

ARC-UK Technologies has seen major growth recently, having almost doubled its turnover in just three years – from £5.9m in 2021 to £9.2m in 2023.

It supports Oxford’s plan for zero carbon emissions by 2040, providing vinyl displays for a number of properties and businesses around the county – including Westgate shopping centre.

Darren added: “Beyond the environmental benefits of practising sustainable habits, businesses can reap financial rewards when they choose to be environmentally friendly.

“We’re finding that customers are more likely to partner with companies that engage in and promote sustainable practices.”

That’s certainly the case for ARC-UK Technologies, which plans to be using 100 per cent renewable energy this year and is in talks to purchase 60 solar panels for its facility in Dartford, Kent.
