Surrey-based Northamber has acquired conferencing business Tempura in a deal worth £6.2 million.

Both Tempura Technology and Tempura Communications are set to become wholly owned subsidiaries of Northamber.

Founded in Basingstoke, Hampshire in 2002, Tempura initially focused on IP infrastructure and telecom links before branching out to video conferencing in 2008.

It’s since opened offices in Dublin and the Netherlands to provide simpler and faster access to Europe for its UK reseller base, and last year posted revenues of £14.6 million.

Managing director Matthew Light has agreed to continue with the business to assist initially with the integration of Tempura into the Northamber group, and then to drive growth in the company’s unified communications offering.

He said: “We see a great many synergies with Northamber, including its culture, products and services.

“I’m pleased to be joining the senior management team of a founder friendly business and to become a shareholder in the company.

“Joining forces with Northamber presents an exciting opportunity for Tempura and our customers.

“Together, we’ll be able to leverage Northamber’s extensive experience, resources and industry-leading expertise to accelerate our growth and better serve the evolving needs of businesses.”

Alex Phillips, chair of Northamber, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Mathew and the Tempura team into the Northamber group.

“Over the last 20 years, they’ve established a very strong reputation for consistently delivering high-quality services and solutions, greatly valued by customers.

“This acquisition aligns perfectly with our commitment to offering comprehensive technology solutions to our customers.

“Tempura brings a wealth of expertise in unified communications and collaboration, which will complement our existing offerings and enhance the value we deliver to our customers.”
