Willmott Dixon Interiors selected for Oxford life sciences hub
A new biomedical research and development centre in Oxford will be delivered by fit-out and refurbishment specialist Willmott Dixon Interiors.
The company, which has a hub in the city’s Beckett Street, has been chosen to deliver approximately 65,000 square feet of laboratory and creative office space on Botley Road from two former retail warehouses.
Willmott Dixon Interiors has been contracted for the redevelopment, named Inventa, by the joint venture of property developer Mission Street and real estate investment management advisor BentallGreenOak, which acquired the site in 2021.
The project team includes Owers Warwick Architects, Abakus Consulting, Buro Four Project Services and Farnborough’s Hilson Moran Partnership.
The buildings’ existing structures will be reused and extended, adding a new internal floor and colonnade to the north elevation.
Using this additional floorspace, the company will create a new reception area and a range of sustainable new spaces, including common areas and meeting rooms, collaboration and circulation spaces, breakout areas, a café, shower facilities and a new cycle centre.

Externally, the building will be upgraded with a new façade, a cycle and pedestrian route and a new car park, with ground work at the building’s rear also working to mitigate flooding. New mechanical and electrical services will be installed.
The project is expected to be completed by summer of 2023.
Graham Shaw, managing director at Willmott Dixon Interiors, said: “Inventa will transform a redundant retail space into an exciting and dynamic science hub in one of the world’s leading research and innovation locations.
“We will be delivering a sustainable building with high quality facilities that will foster collaboration and meet a growing demand from life sciences companies in central Oxford.”
Last month, Willmott Dixon Interiors completed the renovation Brighton & Hove’s children’s services’ hub.
