Thames Valley estate and letting agent Davis Tate has announced the appointment of Matthew Bates as managing director following the decision by founder members, Matthew Davis and David Tate, to step down from the position following 25 successful years at the helm. Both, however, will play an active role in the business moving forward.

The agency, which was established by Davis and Tate in Goring-on-Thames in 1991, is one of the most successful estate and letting agents in the region – with 80 staff working from 13 offices across Berkshire and South Oxfordshire including offices in Abingdon, Burghfield Common, Didcot, Goring on Thames, Henley-on-Thames, Pangbourne, Reading, Shinfield, Sonning Common, Twyford, Wantage, Wallingford and Woodley. In 2016 it won the prestigious Sunday Times Estate Agency of the Year Award for the South East in acknowledgement of exceptional customer services – beating off tough competition from across the region and adding to numerous awards it has won over the years.

Bates – who grew up in Reading and continues to live nearby - takes up the role following 23 years in the property industry working within the lettings and residential sales markets and more recently as lettings director at Davis Tate, where he has worked for the past 12 years.

He commented: “I am obviously delighted to have been promoted to this new position and look forward to building on the success of my predecessors Matthew and David who have undoubtedly ensured that Davis Tate is now positioned as one of the most successful agencies in the region. This is a great opportunity for me to work with existing local teams and to ensure that we can continue to successfully support more and more local customers with our award winning service
