Southampton: Kier Property maps out plans for £40m development
Leading developer Kier Property has won outline planning approval for a £40 million development on the site of the former Ordnance Survey (OS) headquarters in Southampton.Under the plans, Kier Property can develop 10 acres into 179 new homes, 19,000sq ft of office space and 15,000sq ft of retail including shops, a restaurant and a pub on Romsey Road.
The company has already developed part of the 24-acre former OS site, which was acquired in 2010 as part of a deal to develop a new award-winning landmark headquarters for the mapping giant at Adanac Park.
The £3.4m refurbishment of Compass House has transformed the site into modern office space, which is now home to a number of businesses including Radio Tactics, HMRC and NHS Shared Business Services. There is still 22,740sq ft still available to let with 76 parking spaces.
On the 11-acre western part of the site, Taylor Wimpey has already started work on 193 new homes.
The new development on Romsey Road will create 150 jobs and make a significant contribution to the ongoing regeneration of the area.
