One of the UK’s largest law firms has taken space at Tagus House, Southampton in a deal completed by leading property consultancy JLL.

Irwin Mitchell, which is establishing an office in Southampton for the first time, has taken the 4,599 sq ft second floor on a new five year lease, joining Barclays which occupies the ground and first floors.

The national law firm, which is expanding its operation as it seeks to grow its business further, has already recruited an initial team and the premises will ultimately provide enough space for more than 40 people.

There is now just one floor available at the highly desirable city centre office building situated at Ocean Village and totalling 4,546 sq ft.

Tagus House has been completely refurbished by the landlord, Aviva Investors, to provide energy-efficient double glazing, air conditioning, suspended ceilings with LED lighting, fully raised access floors and a passenger lift. The building also benefits from 24 car parking spaces, similar to out of town parking ratios.

Ocean Village is a popular office location, with other occupiers including BDO Stoy Hayward, PwC, the NHS and several real estate practices.

Gary Jackson, operations director at Irwin Mitchell, said: “For a number of years, Irwin Mitchell has worked with clients on the south coast out of our London office and we are confident that our new Southampton office will play a key role in our regional expansion plans.

“Ocean Village provides many of the features we look for when opening a new office; strong transport links, high availability of car parking, a high specification design and a city centre location for our growing team.

“Most importantly, it will enable us to meet the demands of clients from across the south coast region as and when they need us.”

Eleanor Hussey, senior surveyor at JLL’s Southampton office, said: “Tagus House provides exactly the contemporary, high spec space that Irwin Mitchell were looking for to grow their national network of offices. We’re particularly pleased to secure such a sought after tenant on behalf of our client Aviva Investors which owns the property.”

Tagus House is just a 15 minute walk from the main shopping area of West Quay. Other nearby amenities include the main restaurant area of Southampton at Oxford Street as well as several bars fronting onto the Ocean Village Marina.
