The improving economic outlook and housing market recovery has triggered a surge in demand for qualified surveyors in Surrey and the South East, say commercial property specialists from Bruton Knowles.

The firm, which has offices in Railton, Guildford, and across the south of England, has launched a major recruitment campaign to cope with the steep increase in activity.

Bruton Knowles’ Steven Drennan said: “The recruitment of high-calibre and experienced individuals does not happen overnight and we’re certainly not the only commercial property firm looking to recruit the best.

“Our strategy has always been to attract the new generation of surveyors to work alongside well-respected sector experts who have already established a thriving contact network.

“Selecting the right mix of new and experienced staff has helped keep us one step ahead as the economy has recovered far more strongly than predicted at the start of 2013.”

Bruton Knowles is also keen to attract more women surveyors. Currently just 13% of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ 100,000-strong professional body is made up of women.

Naomi Quick a qualified surveyor at Bruton Knowles' Guildford office is keen to stress the range of careers open to women in the field: “Surveying is a good career with great prospects. I get a huge kick out of working in the industry and would like more women like me to have the opportunity.

“Surveying is a hugely diverse profession that covers 19 different specialisations in three sectors – land, property and construction – and the chance to work on projects all over the world.”
