Oxford United have taken another step towards securing a stadium plan for a move that could come as early as 2026.

The League One side, who currently play at the Kassam Stadium, have identified a site east of Stratfield Brake, Kidlington, known as the Triangle.

This new stadium will have a capacity of 16,000 seats, including Sky boxes and flexible lounge spaces for match and non-match day uses.

A 200 bed hotel will also be part of the plans as well as a restaurant and bar, café, health and wellbeing/clinic facilities, an Oxford United shop and a gym.

The League One club have now submitted a scoping request for the new redevelopment to Cherwell District Council.

Despite the club's amibtions, the plans have not necessarily gone down well with local residents who are opposed to the project.

In response to backlash Councillor Calum Miller, Oxfordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Finance, said: ''We are committed to making a decision on this proposal in an open and transparent way, with the help of comments and engagement with stakeholders and members of the public.

''I would like to thank the organisations that attended our meetings and responded constructively to our engagement. This process has been separate from the football club's engagement activities.''
