Plans for £250m Ashford Studios nearing fruition
Work could soon be underway on the £250m Ashford International Studios Project in Kent, as Ashford Borough Council prepares to discuss plans on 30 March.
The development will convert the old locomotive works into purpose-built film studios, workshops, and production offices, as well as a skills and education centre for the creative and digital industries.
This is expected to generate 2,000 jobs and 200 learners a year, some of which will be accommodated in the 302 new homes planned for the Ashford site.
The Ashford International Development Company is currently seeking up to £50 million from the council to put towards construction of the studios and workshop space, as part of a development funding agreement.
It has also already received a “significant offer for 202 of the 302 residential units and is working through the final stages of its due diligence to formalise the transaction”.
Once complete, the project is set to be “one of the most important economic drivers for the borough”, playing a key role in Kent’s economy.
