University of Gloucestershire’s new city centre campus delayed

The opening of the University of Gloucestershire’s new City Campus in the centre of Gloucester has been delayed.
Initially expected to open in late 2024, the university’s vice-chancellor, Clare Marchant, now says the campus is due to launch in a ‘phased way’ next year.
City Campus will feature a new library, public café and health, arts and wellbeing centre, with capacity for nearly 4,000 students when complete.
There are also plans for an Institute of Education at the site.
Headed up by Morgan Sindall alongside a design team led by ADP Architecture, the project has faced setbacks in recent months, including the discovery of human remains.
These revelations, as well as cost-saving concerns, led the university to submit revised plans for the campus in January to Gloucester City Council – a decision on which is still pending.
“City Campus continues to be an exciting and complex project”, said Clare.
“We look forward to showing students, staff and members of the public our fantastic new campus as soon as we can next year.”
