Persimmon Wessex has submitted plans for the first phase of development at Valley Park, Didcot.

The site, which is consortium-led between Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey, has had outline planning permission for 4,254 dwellings and supporting infrastructure since February last year.

Persimmon’s first phase application, known as Phase 1P, has been submitted to the Vale of White Horse District Council and includes plans to deliver 179 new homes. The proposals include a variety of house types and sizes, from 1-bed apartments to 4-bed houses.

Persimmon Wessex managing director, Julian Roper, said: “We are very excited to submit our high-quality plans for the first phase of development at Valley Park.

“Persimmon’s first phase will deliver 179 quality new homes for local people, including a range of 1, 2, 3 and 4-bedroom properties and 60 social homes, which will be equipped with electric charging points and solar panels.

“The strategic site at Valley Park will deliver a huge range of investment locally with over £20m allocated for the delivery of two new primary schools on-site, £9m for secondary education, £15.2m for new road improvements, £3.6m for public transport and millions of pounds for the delivery of a new healthcare facility at Valley Park.

“Our first-phase proposals include a new village green and have responded to key design requests from key stakeholders and sought to create a high-quality, contemporary scheme, which has responded to the character and appearance of the local area, and sets a strong precedent for the development of future phases on the site.

“As a local business, we are committed to delivering this scheme in Didcot with quality and customer service at its heart, and look forward to continuing our work with key stakeholders and the local community to deliver a truly transformational scheme which delivers substantial benefit in the local area.”

The site at Valley Park will see 1,489 homes transferred by the respective housebuilders to a local housing association. As part of the first phase, Persimmon will transfer 60 homes to a local partner for the provision of social housing for local people.

The Valley Park scheme has substantial S106 provisions including more than £20 million allocated for the delivery of two new primary schools on-site, £9 million for secondary education and more than £1.2 million for special education infrastructure.

A further £15.2 million has been allocated for new road improvements, £3.6 million for public transport and millions of pounds for the delivery of a new healthcare facility at Valley Park.
