Leaders Romans Group's Brighton branch goes green
Following a complete refurbishment, Kemptown in Brighton is now the home of Leaders Romans Group’s first ever sustainable branch as the group targets net zero by 2030.
Brighton was deemed a good fit because, as well as the city’s pre-existing eco-credentials, it was the site of Leaders’ first ever branch.
Dorset-based green office and retail design consultants Jackson Associates were commissioned to manage the design and refurbishment of the branch. To ensure sustainability not just today but into the future, all the materials used were selected with longevity in mind.
One strategy to minimise carbon emissions was to source every element used in the refit as locally as possible, if not from the Brighton area then from the UK, reducing transport emissions and supporting green suppliers.
All of the furniture used is made from either recycled or upcycled materials, a principle which will also apply when it reaches the end of its lifecycle. The carpet is made from 65 per cent post-industrial recycled content, and the supplier will repurpose and recycle the finished item when it reaches the end of its lifecycle.
On top of this, the branch is entirely powered by renewable energy, as part of LRG’s wider goal to use 100 per cent renewable energy across the group; it has already reached 95 per cent.

The green office plan has been led by LRG’s Environmental Committee, which found 95 per cent of its staff find it personally important for the business they work for to be sustainable.
Aside from the sustainable branches and renewable energy, LRG’s green roadmap also includes planting 16,000 trees by 2023 in partnership with GreenTheUK and a zero-landfill strategy.
David Wilson, chief operating officer at LRG, commented: “The property industry has a key part to play in halting the devastating effects of climate change. We already know that more tenants and homeowners are prioritising green home improvements to limit personal carbon emissions and it’s essential that this trend is replicated at an industry level.
“We are proud to lead on greener property management and develop a sustainable approach to business and real estate. It is time for the property sector to embrace the next big challenge and step up to help turn the industry green.”
The news follows LRG's recent acquisition of the Acorn Group, which strengthened its presence in Kent.
