Iconic Stroud hotel to reopen this autumn after £2M investment
The Grade II listed Imperial Hotel, located opposite Stroud's railway station dates back to 1863, is to open this autumn after a reported investment of £2 million by Simon Berg of London-based S2 Estates who bought the hotel in 2022.
In recent years Stroud has seen something of a renaissance. The redevelopment of Stroud's Five Valleys Shopping Centre, completed in 2020 was the result of a total reworking of Stroud's original Merrywalks Centre, following major investment of around £12 million by Dransfield Properties, and Gloucestershire’ Local Enterprise Partnership, GFirst LEP.
Further investment of more than £6 million was made in a town centre medical centre, and in 2021 the town was named The Best Place to Live by The Sunday Times.
