Work is revving up for the completion of a flagship hospitality centre at the iconic Thruxton Motorsports Centre with specialist support from Christchurch-based John Reid & Son (REIDsteel).

The state-of-the-art complex in Hampshire will include a restaurant, bar, exhibition gallery, function rooms, hospitality suites, catering facilities, viewing terraces and a balcony.

Steel construction company REIDsteel has designed, manufactured and supplied all of the steelwork, cladding and glazing for the modern, two-storey building alongside local contractor Mata Construction.

Project architect is the Chapman Partnership, which specialises in the motorsport and automotive, leisure and entertainment industries.

The £1.5 million centre’s innovative design includes a grand atrium and entrance lobby to reflect the dynamism of motorsport and Thruxton’s rich heritage.

REIDsteel project engineer Toby Hill-Cousins said: “Thruxton wanted an innovative and modern hospitality centre to reflect its status as one of the most iconic motorsport and leisure venues in the UK.

“We have designed, manufactured and supplied stadia for a wide range of clients over many years, including Premier League football clubs, and are delighted to help deliver this landmark project which will support the venue’s growth for years to come.”

Thruxton, which is near Andover, is planning the grand opening of the new centre in April as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations in 2018.

Construction started on the 1,415 sq m hospitality centre in August 2017.  The complex will host up to 400 guests over two floors, with extra capacity available outside.

It will welcome guests for The British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), British Superbike Championship (BSB), British Truck Racing plus Club Race Meetings, driver experience days, corporate events and functions, meetings, conferences, product launches, race day hospitality and live demonstrations.

Ben Norton, marketing manager at Thruxton, said: “Our flagship hospitality centre is the latest addition as part of ambitious modernisation and growth plans in our 50th anniversary year. It is an exciting and innovative development which will allow us to deliver stunning and memorable events for groups of all sizes with hospitality of the highest standard.”

Thruxton’s 2.4 mile circuit is the fastest in the UK. It also has paddocks for different activities, a top-class kart and 4x4 centre, and state-of-the-art skid pan facility.

REIDsteel is based in Christchurch, Dorset, with 130 employees. It has the capability to design, manufacture and supply entire steel buildings including their cladding and or glazing requirements anywhere in the UK, Europe and the world.

An experienced stadium builder/designer, it has constructed stadium and grandstands for many clients, including Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Charlton Athletic and Rockingham Motor Speedway.
