Carter Jonas confirms sale of Dorset land destined for 961 homes
A residential development site in Gillingham destined for 961 homes has been sold by national property consultancy Carter Jonas and Yeovil-based commercial property agent Chesters Harcourt.
The transaction, which is believed to be the largest of its type conducted in Dorset in several years, was managed by James Bainbridge and Steve Morris of Carter Jonas’ Oxford and Bristol Planning & Development teams and Nigel Jones of Chesters Harcourt.
The land, which was acquired by Redrow Homes Southern Counties, is part of the Gillingham Strategic Southern Expansion, and includes consent for 961 units.
Steve Morris, Partner at Carter Jonas Bristol, said: “The Gillingham Strategic Southern Expansion is set to become a popular new community and the sale to Redrow is a very positive step in building that community.”

Once complete, the 143-acre development will feature open spaces and a centre for community use, with the potential to offer a mix of retail, community, health and leisure facilities along with the always-needed affordable housing.
The site also boasts a range of amenities and facilities provided in nearby Gillingham, including supermarkets, shops, education and employment. The town's location on the Exeter to London Waterloo railway line and proximity to the A30 gives it excellent transport links to the rest of the country.
Jack Allan, Land Director at Redrow Homes Southern Counties, also commented: “We are delighted with how smoothly this transaction was completed and we are now looking forward to delivering the much-needed housing in Gillingham.”
