Bournemouth development gets the go-ahead
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council have granted planning permission on a residential development in Bournemouth’s regenerative Lansdowne district.
Ken Parke Planning Consultants secured permission for a six-storey block of 33 apartments on Holdenhurst Road for Majestic Property & Estates Ltd.
The development will mean the demolition of an existing two-storey building to make way for the construction of studio, one and two-bedroom flats in a new building with a stepped design to align with taller and lower buildings on either side.
With this in mind, permission for the new development allows for three storeys on the building’s southern side to fit with neighbouring terraced buildings and six storeys on the northern side to suit the taller, contemporary buildings on that side.

Ken Parke, managing director of KPPC Ltd, said: “The site was very challenging. The position in the centre of the street block results in the site being surrounded by buildings on all sides. The replacement building had to respond to the many constraints posed by the variety of surrounding buildings and uses.
“The resultant design solution resolved the many issues and provides a well-designed building which transitions between the historic and modern areas of the Lansdowne defining the edge of the tall buildings area.
“It means a substantial development of much-needed residential properties can go-ahead in an area of Bournemouth which has been a priority for regeneration over recent years.”
Lansdowne is an area of Bournemouth which the council has earmarked for extensive regeneration. In March of 2021 work started to deliver new art installations, seating and outdoor event space in Lansdowne’s main business district along Holdenhurst Road between Station Roundabout and Lansdowne Roundabout.
Work is due to be complete on Fire Station Square this year. An event which will include the unveiling of the Chine Forest artworks commissioned by BCP council is currently being planned.
