Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO in Southampton, the leading adviser to mid-market companies in the Central South region, has welcomed a new specialist tax partner focused on working with large international corporates and listed companies. Matthew Sewell will be expanding his support to more complex and global companies across the Central South and the South West, drawing on extensive experience which ranges from entrepreneurial mid-market businesses to multinational groups. In particular, he will focus on cross border tax advisory work, group tax planning and compliance, tax risk management and group tax reporting in the manufacturing, engineering and technology sectors.

Sewell commented: “Despite the current challenging economic environment, I’m excited to be working with the largest tax team in the region and one that has such a strong reputation. Over the coming months the focus for large corporates is going to be on effective tax risk management and developing a tax strategy aligned to adjusted business needs. The world post-lockdown may be much changed but I will be working with companies to capitalise on the global opportunities available to them.”

Jane Mulholland, head of tax at BDO in Southampton, added: “Although we already work with a number of clients needing multifaceted and international tax advice, Matthew brings an added dimension to the support we can provide businesses. The addition of a fourth corporate partner to our local team reflects our continuing investment in BDO’s presence in the Central South.”
