Reading-based law firm Boyes Turner has been appointed to The Katie Piper Foundation’s first legal panel, recognising its experience supporting survivors of burns and scars.

The foundation was set up by Katie Piper OBE in 2009 after she had to travel to France for rehabilitation following an attack in 2008. The author, international speaker and TV presenter set the charity up with the aim of delivering world class burns rehabilitation to other survivors in the UK.

The Katie Piper Foundation’s first legal panel will help survivors of burns and traumatic scarring seek specialist legal support and advice. Boyes Turner will also signpost its clients to the charity for rehabilitation support.

Boyes Turner’s personal injury team is nationally recognised for its handling of complex and substantial cases and offers clients a combination of legal expertise and practical advice and support. It is skilled in securing funding for early rehabilitation to optimise recovery and outcomes for patients.

Kim Milan, Boyes Turner’s Senior Partner, and Head of Personal Injury, said: “The Katie Piper Foundation is doing a vital job helping survivors of burns and traumatic scarring to rebuild their lives. We have admired Katie and the charity’s work for a long time, and we are really looking forward to working with them.

“These kinds of injuries are traumatic and life changing, and we help survivors through the legal process to achieve financial security for the future. Survivors may need help with a range of other legal issues including housing, dispute resolution, employment, family, finance and property advice and we can help with all of these issues too.”

Claire Roantree, Partner in Boyes Turner’s Personal Injury team said: “Long after scars have healed, psychological scars often remain. That is why we are with our clients every step of the way to help them regain their independence and access to both mental and physical rehabilitation, care and support.

“Our relationship with The Katie Piper Foundation will be two-way and we will be signposting our clients to the charity for rehabilitation support through its telerehabilitation programme, peer support work and in person rehabilitation centre in Merseyside.”

Sarah Green, Chief Executive, The Katie Piper Foundation, said: “We are delighted to launch The Katie Piper Foundations’ first legal panel for survivors of burns and traumatic scarring. The panel will give survivors choice when pursuing a legal claim.

“We have chosen four legal firms with a knowledge and understanding not only of the work we deliver but also of the complexities involved in burns and traumatic injuries.

“The firms all share our passion and values in ensuring that survivors have the best opportunity to move forward in their recovery and build the future they want and deserve. As a small charity, we believe in the power of collaboration and look forward to demonstrating this by working together over the next year.”
