Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal have thanked the attendees of the South Coast Property Awards after £7,592 was raised at the event.

Hannah’s Holiday Home Appeal is a charity which provides respite services for children suffering from cancer and life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Children suffering from these illnesses are often in and out of hospital for treatment including chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which cause a range of side effects.

This, along with long hospital admissions, can take its toll on both the young person and their family, clouding family memories. This has only got worse since the pandemic meant a lot of these diagnoses were either made late or missed.

Hannah’s Appeal provide holiday accommodation for these families, allowing them to make memories outside of the hospital visits which will hopefully prepare them for the journey ahead.

A statement from the charity says: "The generosity of EVERYONE! attending really was so overwhelming. Raising £7592.49, I really find it impossible to find the words to express how grateful we are for the generosity everyone showed that night.

“We have a very small team but a huge impact in the areas we support.

“Each year (sadly) we have seen our numbers of families we support grow significantly.  We now support over 150 new children with cancer and their families every year.

“Before the pandemic, we solely concentrated on respite, memory making breaks away in our luxurious lodges. However, during the pandemic when the homes had to lie empty, we worked very hard behind the scenes, supporting families with their mental anxieties and stresses of coping with vital hospital appointments and treatments throughout a very difficult few years.

“Deliveries of medication and supplies, a check in telephone call just to check in on the families. Sadly, during those times several children were receiving palliative care and end of life care, so we were able to support them too.

“We were so happy once the world opened back up, to be able to get back to offering the holidays. Again, this year we have supported over 150 families and we already have 65 families booked in across our three homes, for next year.

“When the whole family can escape hospital life and reunite with the other members of their family who they have really been missing and they can now be back in the heart of their family and make some wonderful, new, happier memories and truly have some well missed family time and fun.

“Our homes are based on wonderful holiday parks, with entertainment, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, restaurants, arcades etc. a real escape from it all - especially as the parks are either near woodlands or the sea so great environments for relaxing. Plus, for that extra peace of mind they are all located near oncology hospitals too.

“The pandemic, and now the cost of living has hit everyone, affecting individuals, companies and charities alike.  The pandemic also meant that all vital fundraising events had to be cancelled or postponed.

“Needless to say your wonderful donations and support is truly amazing and will allow us to continue to do what we do best, especially at the moment when the families we help need us even more than ever.

“Hopefully we can continue supporting as many families as possible and put big smiles on lots of little faces. We really can’t thank you enough for your kindness and generosity.”
