As we start the second week in stage three of lockdownthe very latest job market data by the UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library, reveals the number of job postings in the leisure, tourism and hospitality sector has risen by a staggering 52% in the month immediately preceding the lifting of national Coronavirus restrictions on 17 May.

Lee Biggins, CEO and founder of CV-Library

The data went on to reveal that the regions which saw some of the largest increases in job vacancies month-on-month include:

  1. North Yorkshire (up 125%)
  2. Essex (up 125%)
  3. Oxfordshire (up 119.6%)
  4. London (up 108.1%)
  5. Kent (up 103%)
  6. Cornwall (up 96.5%)
  7. Greater Manchester (up 92.9%)
  8. Norfolk (up 77.1%)
  9. Devon (up 74.6%)
  10. Hampshire (up 44.8%).

Lee Biggins, CEO and founder of CV-Library commentedThis boost in job postings spells really good news for the leisure and tourism sector and it’s clear that the lifting of lockdown restrictions on 17 May is responsible. We are confident that these numbers will continue to grow in the coming weeks as holiday makers feel more comfortable to plan holidays both in the UK and abroad – especially if more countries follow in the footsteps of Portugal and allow UK citizens to enter.”

The findings also show, that during the same time period, the number of applications has remained stable, only dropping by a meagre –0.4%.

Biggins continued: “Workers across the country rely on seasonal work to make ends meet but finding a job in this sector has been incredibly difficult over the past 18 months. However, the boost in vacancies means that there is less competition for these top roles – making it that much easier for job seekers to secure their ideal job.

“If you’re looking for a role in the leisure and tourism sector, dust off your CV and get applying now. As the country becomes more confident that lockdown three is behind us, we expect a surge in applications for these positions. So, make sure you apply now to beat the rush.
