Guildford centre redevelopment deal agreed

Guildford Council have secured the services of developer, St Edward, to undertake long awaited work on North Street.

The Friary Quarter will be a mix of residential properties, retail, leisure and urban public realm space.

It is understood the plans contain provision for 500 sustainable new homes.

The agreement between partners, The Berkeley Group, and M&G Real Estate – known as St Edward, and Guildford Borough Council, secures the redevelopment of vacant brownfield lands in order to revitalise the town centre.

St Edward were responsible for Reading's Greenpark Village and Bankside Gardens.

The developers plan on pedestrianizing North Street, rerouting bus routes with the construction of a bus interchange and improve the area for market traders by reducing traffic and promoting a wider public realm space.

The proposals will be put to the general public via a consultation scheme later this year, with a planning application to be submitted in summer and work to commence in summer 2023.
