On May 8, the Paris Smith Business Club will be hosting a spring masterclass: "The ultimate guide to mediation”. This takes place from 9am-1pm at the Solent Hotel, Whiteley, Fareham.
It is a fact of life that disputes in business will occur, says Paris Smith. Some can be resolved easily but some are more challenging, particularly when positions become entrenched. In the past, cases have headed towards the court with all the inherent costs, commitment of management time, uncertainty and limited range of solutions which the court can impose. However, there is another way: mediation.
Paris Smith's spring masterclass aims to demystify the mediation process by running a mock mediation. In this way delegates will get to see the full picture and detailed insight of both parties' positions. Normally, someone involved in a mediation would not get to see what happens between the mediator and the other side. Having the benefit of seeing both sides' positions could just tip the balance towards a successful mediation.
Given its success rate (between 75-80%), mediation is only likely to grow in importance, says the firm. Even if you or your company are not involved in litigation, mediation still has an important part to play where you and a supplier fall out and want to preserve the existing commercial arrangements.
The masterclass will feature experts from The Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution who have conducted numerous successful mediations both in the UK and overseas.
