A national planning and design consultancy with offices in Bournemouth and London has cemented its reputation as one of the best in the country, having been shortlisted for not one but two national industry awards this week.

Terence O’Rourke has been shortlisted in the ‘Planning Consultancy of the Year’ and the ‘Planning Permission of the Year’ categories at the hotly-contested professional Planning Awards, having impressed judges with its work on some of the most exciting development projects in the country in the past year.

The award shortlistings follow success earlier this year with the Royal Town Planning Institute Awards.  The practice has previously won the ‘Planning Consultancy of the Year’ award in 2010/11.

Terence O’Rourke, which counts the likes of Grosvenor, McLaren, Warner Bros and Chewton Glen among its many blue chip clients, has helped find solutions to some of the UK’s most challenging planning projects.  Its work on securing a Local Development Order for MEPC’s Milton Park in Oxfordshire, which has allowed businesses to expand more freely, and the groundbreaking 10,000 homes Northstowe new town in Cambridgeshire, are just two of the successes that helped the company secure a place as one of only four finalists in the ‘Planning Consultancy of the Year’ category.

In the ‘Planning Permission of the Year’ category, Terence O’Rourke is one of only six companies to make it through the rigorous first judging stage to be shortlisted. Its entry was for its work on the Dollis Valley Estate Regeneration scheme, an ambitious project to transform a run-down estate of concrete flats in Chipping Barnet into a brand new, safer community featuring 631 new homes, including 230 affordable homes, a community centre, nursery and youth facility. Terence O’Rourke secured planning for the complex scheme on behalf of Countryside, in association with L&Q and Barnet Council.

Managing director Tim Hancock said: “We are proud to be helping some the best companies secure planning success and are honoured to be shortlisted in these prestigious awards.

"Every planning permission we secure for our clients adds to our sterling 97% success rate which is a fantastic achievement for our talented team. To once again have our company and our work judged as among the best in the country by our industry peers really is the icing on the cake.”

Terence O’Rourke will find out if it has won at an award ceremony to be held at the London Royal Society of Medicine on November 18.
