Ascot: Thames Valley Berkshire LEP to host skills show for young people

The Thames Valley Skills Show Experience which takes place at Ascot Racecourse on October 14 will be the largest skills event for young people that Berkshire has ever seen.

The event will provide hands-on experiences to inspire young people to get excited about the world of work and explore further education, skills and apprenticeships.

Over 2,000 young people aged between 14-25 will have the opportunity to build a prototype wind turbine, make a 3D whistle using state-of-the-art technology, understand the technology used in forensic science, create chocolate confectionary among many more activities.

Companies showcasing at the event will have the opportunity to reach out to the next generation of potential recruits. There are currently over 60 employers and training providers confirmed to attend, including: 3M, British Army, British Airways, BaxterStorey, Field Seymour Parkes LLP, Filemaker, Gillette, KFC, Marks & Spencer, Network Rail, PwC, Classroom Medics, The Vineyard at Stockcross and Berkshire FE Colleges.

The event takes place from 9.30am-6pm. Young people from Thames Valley Schools are attending from 9.30am-2.30pm; and from 3pm-6pm young people and their parents/carers can book their places by visiting www.tvskillsshow14.evenbrite.co.uk or by contacting Debbie Owen at Central Berkshire Education Business Partnership on 0118-3593131.

The event is funded by the Thames Valley Berkshire LEP which has been awarded funding from the European Social Fund and Skills Funding Agency to deliver with its partners a programme of inspiring and interactive events throughout Thames Valley to raise awareness of skills, training and apprenticeships.
