Whiteley: Stricken Phones4U staff thrown jobs lifeline by OneCom
Workers who were left with an uncertain future after the collapse of Phones4U have been given jobs by communications provider OneCom.
The UK’s largest business-to-business communications provider, OneCom has taken on several former Phones4U staff members following the mobile phone retailer’s move into administration last week.
So far OneCom has employed six ex-Phones4U sales staff – including four at its headquarters in Whiteley, Hampshire. Two were from the Phones4U outlet in Whiteley, another from Phones4U’s Portsmouth branch and one from Southampton.
OneCom has also taken on two workers previously employed at Phones4U at Camberley in Surrey, who will work at its centre in Camberley.
OneCom is inviting current Phones4U staff to send in their CVs as it looks to recruit more staff in the coming weeks.
OneCom chief executive Darren Ridge said: “We’re acutely aware of the impact the collapse of Phones4U is having on its dedicated staff, who are finding themselves with an uncertain future through no fault of their own.
“We’re pleased to have been able to take on some of these people in the few days following the collapse of Phones4U. As a growing and actively recruiting company, I’d invite applications from more.”
OneCom, which provides mobile and fixed-line connections and managed IT services, employs more than 400 staff across its offices in Whiteley, Camberley, Brighton, Plymouth, Leeds, Telford, Southampton, Norwich and Edinburgh.
OneCom was recently named in the Sunday Times Tech Track 100 2014 as one of the country’s fastest-growing businesses.
The company offers full training and has a reputation for rewarding and investing in its staff – giving away £150,000 in bonuses to team members after the firm was named Vodafone’s Platinum Partner of the Year this summer.
