Oxford PV prepares for volume manufacturing
Perovskite solar technology leader announces second in a series of equipment orders from leading photovoltaic equipment supplier – Meyer Burger
Oxford PV – The Perovskite Company, the leader in the field of perovskite solar cells, has announced that it has placed an order with Meyer Burger for perovskite top cell production equipment. This equipment will be integrated with the turnkey 100 MW silicon heterojunction solar cell line that Oxford PV ordered from Meyer Burger in August 2019. The order additionally includes development work on both line and process integration.
Frank P. Averdung, Chief Executive Officer at Oxford PV, said: “Oxford PV’s move to commercial manufacturer is building momentum. We now have the orders placed for our first 125 MW perovskite-on-silicon solar cell manufacturing line.”
All equipment purchased from Meyer Burger will be fully integrated and installed at Oxford PV’s industrial site in Brandenburg an der Havel, Germany. The complete production line will commence perovskite-on-silicon tandem solar cell production at the end of 2020.
Oxford PV is the pioneer and technology leader in the field of perovskite solar cells. The company was established in 2010, as a spin-out from the University of Oxford. Today, the company has the largest team globally, focused on developing and commercialising a perovskite-based solar technology. A research and development site in Oxford, UK and an industrial pilot line near Berlin, Germany enables the accelerated transfer of its technology into industrial scale silicon solar cell production.
Oxford PV’s perovskite-on-silicon solar cell has achieved a world record certified efficiency of 28% - exceeding the 26.7% efficiency world record for a single junction silicon solar cell. Oxford PV’s perovskite-on-silicon solar cell technology roadmap extends beyond 30% efficiency.
In 2019, the company announced plans to move into full commercial manufacturing. Solar panels built with Oxford PV’s perovskite solar cell technology will generate more power, critical for delivering more affordable clean energy, accelerating the adoption rate of solar and addressing climate change.
