Four South East companies make EnviroTech top 50

BusinessCloud have announced their EnviroTech 50 rankings for 2022, with four South East-based firms making the cut.

The annual list ranks companies based on their innovation in green technologies. This year, an independent panel of judges and a public vote whittled down a shortlist of 93 to produce the final 50.

At fourteenth, Salisbury’s agri-tech startup Small Robot Company are the highest ranked from the South East. The company use robotics and AI to create new models for regenerative and profitable farming. They call their new model ‘per plant farming’.

Regenerative farming is a system of farming principles and practices which seek to rehabilitate and improve the entire farm ecosystem by focusing heavily on soil health, along with considering water management and fertilizer use practices. Small Robot Company aim to increase yields with minimal chemical usage in an attempt to repair top soil damage.

measureable.energy, a Reading-based startup specialising in energy management solutions, take the twenty-first spot. Their platform provides facilities managers, building owners and occupants real-time energy and greenhouse gas monitoring, as well as automated controls and data driven actions to avoid carbon emissions.

They aim to reduce wasted energy through the use of specialised power sockets, their previously mentioned software platform and machine learning algorithms to monitor and reduce carbon emissions. In February, we noted them as a Thames Valley startup to watch.

Wokingham’s Tepeo have been awarded forty-sixth. Their Zero Emissions Boiler offers a reduced carbon alternative to the standard oil and gas boilers found in most UK homes. Powered by electricity and capable of storing energy like a battery, the firm claim their boiler retains the full functionality of a traditional appliance.

According to Tepeo, around 20 per cent of all carbon emissions produced in the UK come from heating homes. The Zero Emissions Boiler’s ability to charge on solar energy further contributes to its ability to reduce carbon emissions.

Recycling Technologies, a plastic recycling specialist based in Swindon, take the fiftieth and final spot. Their modular plastic recycling equipment can be installed at existing waste management sites to help divert plastic waste away from landfill, incineration and the environment.

The company’s modules turn plastic waste into base chemicals, monomers and feedstock, providing more recycling options and increasing site capacity. Their aim is to create a circular economy where plastic can be continuously recycled by linking the waste sector and petrochemical industry.
