Software company Digital Wonderlab has joined an elite group of businesses across the world pledging their commitment to the environment and society by achieving B Corp status.

Through the certification, the Bradford on Avon-based firm has entered into a legal agreement to reach specific targets in terms of its environmental impact and societal support.

To prove its commitment to its mantra ‘technology for good’, the company has also joined One Per Cent for the Planet, through which it pledges to donate at least one per cent of its annual sales to support environmental organisations and projects.

For founder and CEO Nathan Baranowski, B-Corp certification, and joining One Per Cent for the Planet, is the culmination of many years’ work towards the general goal of ensuring Digital Wonderlab creates a positive legacy by offering tangible support where it matters.

“For 15 years we have worked with charities, organisations and individuals focused on tackling society’s big challenges," said Nathan.

"As part of our ongoing commitment to use technology as a force for good we are proud to announce we are a Certified B-Corp and a member of One Per Cent for the Planet.

“Creating positive change and taking action is what Digital Wonderlab is all about. We are good people – we care about each other, our community, our wider society and our planet, so we’ve cemented this by becoming part of two leading global movements.

“For us being a Certified BCorp commits us legally to placing planet and people before profit, whilst challenging us to be an even better business through the robust assessment process and goals tracker to focus on what matters to us as a team and our clients.”

Last year Digital Wonderlab donated £60,000 in discounted revenue to charities and not-for-profits, delivered 1,476 hours in pro bono work and enabled the charities it works with to raise over £350,000 in digital donations.

By joining One Per Cent for the Planet, Nathan and the team have also added an ongoing funding pledge to support the environment.

“As a company and as individuals, we’re fully aware of the hard-hitting reality of what is happening to our planet," said Nathan.

"Giving at least one per cent of our revenue to causes that support regenerating and averting climate catastrophes is simply a no brainer. We’re looking forward to supporting local and international charity partners through this initiative.”

Kate Williams, CEO of One Per Cent for the Planet, said, "Currently, only three per cent of total philanthropy goes to the environment and, only five per cent of that comes from businesses.

"The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of business members are doing vital work to increase giving and support on-the-ground action. We're excited to welcome Digital Wonderlab to our global movement.”
