Poole-based marine electronics specialists, Actisense, was named Best Marine Tech Company at the annual South Coast Tech Awards 2020 on October 7. The accolade completes a successful year for the brand, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic.

The company has established an enviable world-wide reputation within the specialist field of marine electronics. With over two decades of specialist experience in the design of DSP software and hardware, in the field of smart sensors, interfacing and connectivity, the company is now a market leader in the manufacture of intelligent products. Originally serving the leisure and commercial marine sectors, the company has started to win business in new vertical marketing, including the progressive smart agricultural technology sector.

With over 83% of the company’s turnover coming from global markets (Actisense has over 80 distributors in 46 countries), Actisense was proudly named an Export Champion by the Department of Trade and Industry this year.

Actisense CEO, Phil Whitehurst, commented on a peculiar year: “Winning this award was a wonderful accolade for our hard-working team.

They’ve done a fantastic job keeping the brand buoyant, particularly in these turbulent waters. While our original growth plans for 2020 have obviously required amendment, for us to continue to track above last year’s excellent financial numbers is testament to our teamwork, and the incredible support of our global customers.”

The company recently surveyed their customer base to understand why they continue to buy Actisense. The overwhelming response cited the company’s “constant innovation” and “robust and reliable product line”. From over 50,000 products shipped in 2019, less than 0.22% was returned faulty – an industry-beating figure.

Whitehurst and his team promise even more innovations in the year ahead.
