Southampton: PwC in Store Wars challenge
Teams at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP are preparing to take over Barnardo’s UK stores on Thursday December 10 to raise as much money as possible for the charity in the run-up to Christmas.
PwC in Southampton is embracing the Store Wars challenge as the office tries to raise much-needed cash for the charity as well as secure the largest percentage increase in sales during the one-day event in a charity challenge with 20 other teams from offices across Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands.
The Barnardo's store in Bitterne, Southampton will be taken over by PwC staff who have been undertaking various fundraising initiatives with the aim of attracting extra shoppers to the store on December 10. Extra collections of new donations have been carried out to ensure that a wide variety of stock is on sale, and shoppers in Bitterne will be bound to pick up bargains a plenty in this Christmas shopping extravaganza, aimed at raising valuable funds for the country’s best loved children’s charity.
Hampshire and England cricketer Chris Tremlett will be coming into the store in the afternoon to draw a raffle with prizes including a signed photo from the winning Hampshire cricket team, a Nintendo Wii, restaurant vouchers, and more! Raffle tickets will be available for sale from the shop in Bitterne. Make sure you don’t miss out on the festive fun!

This is the second time that PwC has taken on this challenge – three offices in Scotland and one in Manchester raised over £13,000 in 2007 and increased store sales by an average of 1051%.
Nick Smith, Community Affairs partner for the Southampton office explained why his local office is keen to get involved: “We were thrilled by both the success of the firm’s fund-raising efforts in 2007 and the feedback from Barnardo’s, and are delighted to work with them once more on a much bigger scale.
“The return of Store Wars has been well-received by our people in Southampton and across the firm and I am thrilled by how enthusiastic they have been and their determination to raise even more money for the charity.
“I believe this initiative not only gives our people the opportunity to learn valuable new skills but is a wonderful example of our staff being able to give something back to the communities in which we work.”
Martin Field, UK director of fundraising, Barnardo’s, said: “I’m delighted that PwC have been so enthusiastic in taking the Store Wars challenge – the biggest Challenge so far – and I eagerly await the results as PwC brings its business expertise and enthusiasm to Barnardo’s stores across 10 locations throughout the UK. I am sure that PwC staff will enjoy both the contest and the chance to do their bit to assist Barnardo’s in turning around the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people. Whichever team wins, the real winners will be the children that will benefit from PwC’s enthusiasm and support.”
