Oxford Ionics appoints Non-Executive Director

Oxford Ionics, a quantum computing startup company, has announced its appointment of Dipesh Patel as a Non-Executive Director.

Dipesh was the former CTO and EVP of Arm before becoming an operating partner at Cambridge Innovation Capital. His experience running technical teams at Arm will no doubt aid him in supporting Oxford Ionics as it scales its technology.

Dr Chris Ballance, co-founder & CEO of Oxford Ionics, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Dipesh to the Oxford Ionics board, and to receive backing from the UK’s NSSIF.

Founded in 2019 by Dr Chris Ballance and Dr Tom Harty, Oxford Ionics use trapped ions to create Silicon Chips with what the company describes as ''unrivalled quantum performance.

The announcement of Dipesh's appointment follows the firm gaining £2 million in funding from the UK’s National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF). Oxford Ionics will use this funding to continue developing its trapped ion technology.

Commenting on his appointment, Dipesh said: “It’s an honour to be appointed a non-executive director at Oxford Ionics. From my many years at Arm, I understand the challenges and opportunities for scaling highly technical, groundbreaking companies, taking them from the innovation stage to widespread adoption.
