Bracknell: College opens doors to support apprenticeships

Bracknell & Wokingham College opened its doors to the general public from all over Berkshire to offer help and advice on apprenticeships and careers.

Students met employers to find out how to register for an apprenticeship on the national apprenticeship database and also spoke with the College’s own industry experienced Apprenticeship Team.

Conor Jackson, senior academic relationship manager from UCFB, who deliver university degrees in the football and sports industries, said: “The event was fantastic. Despite being the only higher education provider amongst a room full of apprenticeships there was plenty of interest in the courses and the students engaged really well and showed desire to learn about their future options.”

Campbell Christie CBE, college principal, said: “The prime minister made a powerful speech on 19 February during which she emphasised the need for informed choice for young people and their parents about career opportunities. Her speech heralded this week’s National Apprenticeship Week and the College is proud to play our part in promoting apprenticeships as an attractive career choice.

“Our Apprenticeship Careers Fair helped young people and their parents make informed decisions and I should like to thank all the local employers who came and helped to make the day such a great success.

“I was delighted to see our current apprentices excelling themselves in the support they provided; giving first-hand accounts of their own apprentice experiences whilst working at the college.”
