Boyes Turner has significantly boosted its commercial & technology practice with the appointment of leading intellectual property partner Sarah Hadland from Pitmans. The appointment took effect as of September 6, 2010.

Hadland is ranked as a leading individual in intellectual property by the legal industry’s leading directory Chambers UK. She will develop Boyes Turner’s existing intellectual property capability and provide in-depth experience of IP litigation as well as expand its Brand Guardianship offering.

Having qualified at Bird & Bird in 1995, Hadland worked for a number of years at Eversheds, London, as an intellectual property lawyer specialising in protection and enforcement of trademarks and design rights as well as handling cases involving passing off and counterfeit goods. She joined Pitmans in 2006 to establish an intellectual property capability and was appointed partner and head of intellectual property. Her clients include Marson Fabrics (London), Ty, Inc. (makers of Beanie Babies), CanWest Global Communications Corp and the Swedish clothing company, Gant AB.

Hadland will work alongside established partners Mark Blunden who heads up Boyes Turner’s Commercial & Technology group, and Bill Gornall-King, supported by a growing team.

Commenting on the move Hadland said: “I am delighted to join this dynamic team which has an excellent reputation. I believe that my practice will complement the existing offering and I am looking forward to working with colleagues who are focussed on creating the leading intellectual property practice outside of London”.

Head of the Commercial & Technology group Mark Blunden added: “Sarah’s arrival comes at a significant time in the development of the group. It has been a central plank of our strategy for several years to acquire a dedicated capability to undertake intellectual property litigation not only to service the needs of our growing client base but also to enhance our Brand Guardianship service. Sarah’s skill set and experience is a perfect strategic fit. We are delighted that she has chosen to join Boyes Turner.”
