Midlands property, development and construction company The Wigley Group has sold the delivery office it built for Royal Mail in the north of Coventry for £3.5 million.

The Wigley Group has sold its freehold interest in the Royal Mail North Hub to a private buyer.

The depot, which comprises a 17,500 sq ft unit plus delivery yard and car parking, was built on land owned by The Wigley Group in 2009 for leasing to Royal Mail.

It is one of two Royal Mail delivery depots servicing Coventry and is strategically located to the north of the city, close to the A444 and M6.

It was built on land which once housed the world-famous Alfred Herbert manufacturing works at Edgwick Park, and formed part of a 35-acre plot bought by The Wigley Group in the late 1970s and 1980s.

James Davies, managing director of The Wigley Group, said: “The Royal Mail North Hub was the kick-start for The Wigley Group post-recession and from that point, we went on to sell and develop other sections of land within the Edgwick Park area.

“It marked an important stage in our regeneration of Edgwick Park which began in 1979, marking the start of our venture into the commercial property market, and has culminated with the creation of a vibrant commercial hub.

“A decade on, we have sold our freehold interest in the delivery office and are actively in the market for new investments, seeking out further commercial property and land opportunities throughout the Midlands.”

The Wigley Group were advised in the sale by Vining Management and Edgerley Simpson HoweFranck-Steier Price acted for the purchaser.
