Reading's Thames Tower will be bulldozed and replaced by a brand new building on a site described as "arguably the best location for an office in the South East".
Real estate expert LaSalle Investment Management says "the existing building wastes the potential for drawing multi-national employers to Reading's centre". A brand new building would fit alongside the proposed Station Hill redevelopment and with Reading Council's masterplan for the area.
LaSalle is holding a public exhibition from May 17 to 20 to show proposals for the redevelopment and gather views. A planning application will then be submitted in the summer.
The Thames Tower owners say they intend to:
• Provide the style of offices that meet the needs of multinational companies;
• Continue the vibrant shopping experience of the proposed Station Hill development by providing space for shops and cafes at street level on the new station plaza and on Station Road;
• Create a recognisable new landmark for Reading with its tallest building;
• Complement the new station plaza with high quality architecture;
• Make a clear statement about Reading's ambitions to be a major commercial centre;
• Benefit occupiers with fundamentally sustainable accommodation meeting high environmental standards.
