Colten Care’s interior design team is celebrating a double helping of international recognition for its newly opened Dorset care home, Bourne View.

The art deco-themed nursing and residential home in Poole scooped Silver at the World Interiors News WIN awards and a finalist’s place at the SBID International Awards.

Both sets of awards are well established in the design industry calendar, attracting entries from companies, agencies and design practices across the world.

Judges in both awards, including distinguished architects and designers, praised Bourne View for successfully balancing residents’ clinical needs with modern living and art deco-style glitz.

The twin success comes just a few weeks after the home won the Knight Frank Care Home Design Award for the way it has been planned, designed, built and fitted out.

In addition, the interior design team are on the shortlist for the forthcoming FX Awards, a further celebration of world-class design excellence.

At the WIN awards, Bourne View was runner-up in the residential care home category to a retirement community in Puwan, China.

At SBID it was on a shortlist of just 15 healthcare and wellness category finalists whittled down from a field of entries representing 48 countries.

Both Georgina Colwell, Colten’s head of design, and Wendi Batchelor, assistant interior designer, attended the WIN and SBID awards ceremonies in London.

Colwell said: “Even before it opened in March 2019, we knew we had achieved something special at Bourne View, but to have this level of international recognition so soon is amazing. We are completely blown away and incredibly proud.”

Colten has developed its in-house expertise through the planning, design, construction and operation of 21 homes in Hampshire, Dorset, Wiltshire and Sussex.

Colwell added: “Every aspect of our homes is designed around the needs of our residents.

“Complementing our overall approach to care, called All About Me, our interiors play a key role in enabling our residents to make the most of their lives.

“At Bourne View we have achieved a successful balance of design and function through strong collaboration with our construction and operations teams.

“The clinical elements required to offer the highest level of care are discreetly designed into the building, not only providing an efficient working environment but giving an overall impression of a grand coastal home.”

Drawing on art deco influences, Bourne View features cosy sitting rooms, cafes, bistro, entrance atrium, natural light streams and living walled courtyards.

An orangery-style roof-top bar opens out to a roof garden with views over a nature reserve and to the sea.

Residents, families and community contacts currently score Bourne View a perfect ‘10 out of 10’ on the national public review site Carehome.co.uk. The home is one of only four among 18,000 care homes in the UK to achieve a perfect 10 score.
