Plans set to breathe new life into disused land and buildings in Poole
Plans for new homes and regeneration of empty heritage buildings are set to breathe new life into a disused site in Poole.
An outline proposal for 88 low-rise new homes, 106 parking spaces and conversion of empty heritage buildings into residential space and business use at Constitution Hill, plus improvement of public access to green space, has been made on behalf of FuturePlaces, BCP Council’s urban regeneration company.
FuturePlaces is recommending that the mixed tenure project, including affordable housing, be overseen and delivered by BCP Council’s Housing Development.
Councillor Philip Broadhead, Deputy Leader of BCP Council and Portfolio Holder for Development, Growth and Regeneration, said: "Breathing new life into disused land and buildings at Constitution Hill is just one of a number of projects across council-owned sites to unlock £3 billion worth of investment.
"What I love about the Constitution Hill proposals is that they show what regeneration is about – people. These plans provide local homes for local people, whilst also supporting community facilities and green spaces. It really is a win-win!”
Gail Mayhew, FuturePlaces’ Managing Director, said: “The Constitution Hill site is part of the initial portfolio of 14 projects earmarked for regeneration – it is an exciting opportunity to deliver much-needed, affordable homes in a vibrant community.
"It is FuturePlaces' role to look at all viewpoints, and propose regeneration that has the community, value for money and longevity at its heart – the Constitution Hill proposal embodies this.”
It is proposed that BCP Council funds the construction and refurbishment of heritage buildings on the site. Over the next six months Housing Development will finalise plans for an affordable mixed tenure housing scheme and submit a planning application.
