Oxford Quantum Circuits has moved into The Gateway Building at the Thames Valley Science Park (TVSP).

The tech company, which has the only commercially available quantum computer in the UK, has leased laboratory and office space at the 45,000 sq ft multi-let R&D Gateway building.

Founded in June 2017 by Dr Peter Leek, OQC developed its first technology at the University of Oxford and its world-leading physics department. Due to growth OQC required specialist lab space with supporting offices capable of accommodating their unique requirements for advancing quantum computer technology. A modern, high-tech lab-orientated building was required, well-located to the ‘Golden Triangle’ for innovation and science led expertise.

Built in 2016, this letting takes The Gateway Building to almost full occupancy and sets a defiant tone to what has otherwise been a challenging year for property transactions in the light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Christopher Reeve, Director for TVSP Ltd and the University, said: “The University of Reading’s Thames Valley Science Park is proud to welcome Oxford Quantum Circuits, who we recognise as an exemplar UK enterprise at the forefront of next generation computing technology. Their welcome addition to the existing community of knowledge based companies supports our ambition to create a science park playing into the heart of economic growth, technological innovation and job creation.”

Harry Bevins of Haslams who represented TVSP and The University of Reading on the letting, said: “It is great to build on the success of The Gateway Building and secure OQC as a tenant. Their story is an impressive one and it is good to see a British company expanding at the current time. The UK R&D sector remains robust even in the current challenging market which bodes well for the future of TVSP”
