Lawyers at Osborne Clarke have advised the University of Bristol on its investment of £500 million in the new Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, with work set to begin later this month.

Construction company Sir Robert McAlpine has been contracted to redevelop the former Royal Mail sorting office on Cattle Market Road, next to Bristol Temple Meads Station. Due for completion in 2026, the site will host 4,600 students and 650 university staff.

The Temple Quarter Campus is set to house the University’s Business School and Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre, as well as dedicated facilities for both enterprise and community partners and digital engineering research groups.

At its heart will be a 38,000 square foot academic building, providing a hub for research in the data science, digital innovation, creative industries, cyber, and quantum sectors.

Working alongside the University on the development are Bristol City Council, the West of England Combined Authority, Network Rail, and Homes England.

The team from Osborne Clarke which advised on the investment was led by Partner Chris Wade and Associate Director Sarah McCool. Associate Director Laura Thornton and Partner Catherine Wolfenden dealt with procurement matters.

Sarah said: “The University of Bristol is an integral part of the region and this world class campus will bring significant socio-economic benefits to the city, as well as cementing the city’s and wider South West region’s position as a global innovation destination.

“It has been a pleasure to support the University as it signs the contracts and work gets underway.”
