Outline approval of a planning application to construct a housing development on Reading FC's former training ground has been secured.

Reading FC vacated their Hogwood Park training ground during the 2019/20 season. The EFL Championship team relocated their training activities to Bearwood Park.

Now, plans for the empty plot are in place to breathe new life into the Hogwood site which was used by The Royals from 2003.

Regeneration specialists, Vistry Partnerships have gained outline approval for the site’s transformation. They plan to create a 140-home scheme, comprising 26 two-beds, 69 three-beds, 41 four-beds and four five-beds. Wokingham Borough Council will review a reserved matters application on 10th August.

Vistry Partnerships is to offer an Employment Skills Plan in line with the outline S106 agreement.

Ahead of a planning committee meeting, Planning Officers reported: "It is considered to be a sustainable development that offers substantial public benefit and will deliver a high quality development in accordance with the council's spatial strategy and there are no other material planning considerations of significant weight, such as impact upon amenity, appearance, etc."
