IONOS and Fasthosts achieve Tier IV certification at Worcester data centre
European digitalisation partner IONOS and its UK subsidiary Fasthosts have secured Tier IV certification for their £21 million data centre, opened in October 2022 at Worcester Six Business Park.
The Tier Standard for data centres is administered by the Uptime Institute, and measures reliability and performance. Tier IV is the highest level achievable on this scale, indicating a centre with fully redundant infrastructures which offer the least anticipated downtime or best performance as a result of fault tolerance.
With this new certification, the Worcester centre now ranks alongside those run by banks or other organisations dealing in highly sensitive data. The rigorous process saw IONOS and Fasthosts cooperating with the Uptime Institute from the planning stages through to the finished build, with facility demonstrations and on-site verification.

Markus Noga, CTO at IONOS, said: “We are very proud that our Worcester site is the only Tier IV constructed data centre facility publicly listed by Uptime Institute in the UK.
“It’s our most modern and environmentally friendly IONOS data centre yet, and for it to have the highest level of certification is a remarkable achievement, which represents our ongoing commitment to excellence.
“In terms of security and availability, Worcester will be a blueprint for our future data centres.”
Totalling 43,708 sq ft, the unit comprises a cutting-edge 30,729 sq ft data centre alongside 12,978 sq ft of office space. Among a range of energy efficient features, solar panels fulfil up to 10 per cent of the site’s energy use.
The centre also connects directly to IONOS’ backbone fibre optic network on the UK’s fibre figure of eight, with an outside capacity of 3,000 Gigabit per second.
