Hampshire-based Barratt Developments has built 721 new homes over the past 12 months bringing £46million worth of investment to the region’s local communities.

The developers spent £30.1million on highway improvement, local outdoor spaces, and community facilities.

As well as financial investment, the housebuilding supply chain has contributed £123million through its total value spend with suppliers and sub-contractors.

The period has also outlined Barratt’s commitment to both affordable living and sustainable construction practices. 179 of the 721 new homes sold for 54% less than the national average price for a private home. Barratt also diverted 3.96 tonnes of construction waste from landfills.

Barratt Developments Managing Director James Dunne said: “Despite the nation facing uncertainty with the cost-of-living crisis, we have prided ourselves on continuing our commitment to building strong, sustainable communities.

“The local areas we work in benefit from jobs, community development and support for local business as well as a collection of brand-new homes. It’s so important for us to leave a lasting legacy in and around these new neighbourhoods, and I’m very proud of the positive impact we have, both at the time of construction, as well as in the years after.”

The development of the Hampshire region has seen 8.7 hectares of green space created. 54% of developments were designed with landscape-led, above ground, sustainable urban drainage systems.

The figures in this article were obtained through the developers socio-economic footprint report in 2022, which also shows that Barratt built 99% of homes to EPC A and B standards and also provided over 1,552 jobs both directly and indirectly.
