On its 177 birthday, London pub group Fullers has announced it has completed the purchase of a Cotswold tea room in Bourton-on-the-Water, which is now set to become pub after the previous occupier went into liquidation in 2020.

Savills was marketing the property, formerly De La Haye’s Cafe Tea Room, for £2.895 million.

A Fuller’s spokesperson said: “WAs a family company, with a rich heritage, this is a perfect location for a wonderful Fuller’s pub, and we are looking forward to playing an active role in the community.

“We have been granted planning permission to make some changes and we will be revealing our plans shortly. It’s a wonderful location and we can’t wait to bring the great Fuller’s experience of delicious, home-cooked, locally sourced food, a fantastic range of drinks and outstanding customer service to Bourton-on-the-Water. We are hoping to be open early in 2023.”

Windrush Restaurant was historically a mid-19th Century house, constructed of coursed rubble Cotswold stone walls and hipped welsh slate roofs with generous eaves, typical of its period. The building was extensively altered and renovated to form the existing restaurant, with an adjacent fish and chip shop, and bakery/pizzeria, along with first floor accommodation.

The property underwent an extensive redesign and refurbishment in 2017.

Prior to lockdown De La Hayes operated as a high end restaurant/café with fish and chip shop, bakery/pizzeria with additional sales coming from the sale of ice cream and deliveries. M
