Cala Homes, a house building company with offices in Surrey and West Sussex, is strengthening its presence it Kent through its acquisition of land and planning consent in Tonbridge.

The firm plans to use the land to build a 'new Kent community' consisting of 125 new homes, 50 of which (40 per cent) will be affordable.

Consent for the plans was granted by Tonbridge and Malling Council. The project, if completed as it has been planned, will have contributed 15 per cent of Tonbridge and Malling’s housing targets of 800 homes a year.

More new homes are also set for Woodchurch, Ashford, where Cala has completed the acquisition of a site with Outline Planning Permission for 40 new homes. The homebuilder intends to submit a Reserved Matters application for the scheme later this year.

This flurry of activity in Kent reflects Cala's expansive ambitions for the county, to support this Cala recruited Scott Finch as Senior Land Manager for its South Home Counties business, who has been focusing on expanding the business into Kent by finding immediate and strategic land opportunities.

Scott said: “These are important steps in our journey to bolster our presence across Kent and testament to the work the team has been putting in to achieve this. Kent is acutely experiencing the effects of the housing crisis and our new Tonbridge community, Barden Croft, will bring a range of options for people looking to move to or within the area.

“The purchase of land in Woodchurch in such quick succession is a sign of our growth trajectory – many of us within the team know Kent extremely well, enabling us to support our ambitions in the region. We look forward to submitting Reserved Matters proposals for the scheme later this year.”
